Dorset Buttons

These are the very first Dorset Buttons I have ever made. I have always been fascinated with Dorset Buttons and the Feather Stitchery for the last several years. The Peppermint and Green on has already been given as gifts. I made another Christmas Tree for a dear friend. I think they have a wonderful history that goes backs hundreds of years in the UK. Does anyone else make Dorset Buttons????
In this photo I show you the different types of threads and yarns I used to create these buttons.
(1) Roses and More Roses Brooch, was made with White "Paton's Silk Bamboo Yarn" with a 2 inch plastic ring. The Trio Embroidery Flosses I used in creating the roses were 50% Silk and 50% Wool made in Switzerland. This floss is very soft and lovely to stitch with.
(2) My Christmas Tree Dorset Button Brooch, was made with Red "Paton's Angora Bamboo Yarn" with a 2 inch plastic ring. The tree was created with Green "Paton's Silk Bamboo Yarn" and then I added beads and a wee star at the top.
(3) The Shade of Purple Dorset Button was made from #8 DMC Perle Cotton with a 1 1/4 inch plastic ring.
(4) The Shade of Green Dorset Button was made from #8 Finca by Presencia. I also added Madeira Metallic thread to the inside to add sparkle to it. It was made from a 1 1/4 inch ring.
(5) The Peppermint Dorset Button was made from # 20 Lizbeth tatting cotton and I used a 3/4 inch ring. I enjoyed using all sizes of threads and yarns and each came out having a very unique look. I really like them all.
Tricia I hope you are feeling better?? I would love to hear from you all if anyone else makes these lovely buttons.
Take care Hugs Judy

Contrasts in Autumn and Forum Changes

Hi All, sorry for the delay this month but I am still here!
First I just thought I would share the two photos I took recently. We've had some glorious October weather this year. Almost wall to wall sunshine here in Kent. As you can see from the first picture. This beautiful tree that I have yet to identify is wonderful, last year there were three different colours in this tree all at the same time. green, yellow and gold. The next picture was taken opposite my house on Halloween. Talk about add to the atmosphere. it seemed very spooky as the mist shifted closer and closer!

I am only going to share a couple of the leaf brooches I have been making, this is my contribution to the Autumn challenge for October.

Whilst I am talking about challenges I would like to make this site much more informal. My intention was to make this a forum and so I think I would like much more chat about everyones work. I will still set challenges from time to time but not on a monthly basis.
The good news is that I am opening this site for you all to add work that you are currently making. At this time of year many of you may be attending craft fairs, if this is the case perhaps you could share photos of what you are displaying. You may link the work back to your site so that others can visit to see your whole range too.
If you are not selling your work but are making presents for family or friends then do lets see your treasures too. I hope that you will all be much happier with this set up and it takes a lot of pressure off me; especially at the moment. You can add more than one blog per month, just as and when you have something to share with the rest of us. The only restriction is that you don't actually offer goods for sale here, you can redirect that to your own site by saying that the goods are for sale from there.
Tell us how you are doing with your making/craft fairs especially in the present financial climate, it would be interesting to know whether we crafters will be helping people to afford some nice hand made presents. I have recently joined a local craft group which has been helping me to get out more, it's only once a fortnight but it's nice to meet other crafters face to face. We held a craft fair yesterday and many of my little brooches sold, I think it is because they make such simple presents to send through the post. I was very pleased and surprised. I didn't ask too much for them and I think that made a difference.
Well, when you have the time add a post and let us know what you have been up to. Do lets discuss on this forum. That's really what it is for, treat it like your own blog from now on and invite others to comment.
I look forward to reading all your posts, let me know what you think about these changes. Best Wishes Tricia x

Autumn Felted Purse and Leaf

Hello Everyone, Tricia I was sad to hear that you are not feeling well. I hope you are doing better soon. I have been a bit busy doing some wet wool felting this Autumn. I created a Autumn color wool felted purse and a needle felted leaf. I used the wool I bought from the wool lady in Germany. She dyed her wool from nature's bounty. This pics shows the inside of the purse.
This is a photo show the front of the purse with a felted flower with a fancy button to hold it on. Here is the wool I used. The wool lady believe in dying all her wool from plants and veggies roots and skins. I made some felted balls here that I gave away to friends. I used the pink wool to make the hearts and then I hand dyed them with Blue Berries. The fabric that the everything is setting on was also dyed with the Blue Berries. It was a natural muslin color before. This is my Autumn Posting for you all to see. I loved seeing everyone's Lovely Autumn post cards and scarfs.
I wish you all a lovely Autumn. Hugs Judy

Autumn postcard

This is my postcard, it is all hand stitched. It is based on the Autumn red berries I keep finding all over my garden.

Autumn challenge

This is the back view of my Autumn inspired heart. It is made of felt and there is a made up quote on the back.
This is the front view. My inspiration was the numerous rabbits I see when walking my dog, although this is actually a hare.

October Challenge - Autumn/fall/colour

Sorry Guys, not only for being a bit late with the new challenge but also for not being very active. I won't go into detail but it's been a very difficult time again for me health wise and so I am having to limit what I can do.

I wasn't able to make the last challenge myself but well done to those of you who did participate.

I am going to make this challenge as easy as I can for everyone, so it will be a seasonal one. Following the same kind of ideas of making samples/postcards but with thoughts about how these could be used on an object, perhaps a bag or a scarf, or indeed anything you choose. Look at the time of year, Autumn is a stunning season look for contrasts between the colour of the leaves and wonderful skies. If you can take pictures do so, take some from under the trees looking up. Your work could take on an abstract appearance. Just think of the season and the colour and go for your life. Here are a few photos to inspire:
